For his small event planning company, Tim had 3 computers in a small network. Each employee had their own computer. Tim had set his network to backed up the data to a tape drive for each computer. After about 2 years, a hard drive failed, and the backups tapes were needed for the company’s QuickBooks. As Tim wasn’t computer literate, he looked in the phone book for a computer professional. He call a big name computer support company from the phone book. An IT professional, Don, arrived in a little company car around 4:30pm that afternoon. He immediately sat down at one of the computer to investigate the network.

After 30 minutes, Don said his shift was over, and another person would be there shortly. Twenty minutes later, Susie arrived in another small company car, and determined that the tape drive was bad. Susie took the company’s tapes and tape drive to the main office. Tim hoped for the best.

Two days later, Susie called Tim and said that some of the data was finally restored and would be delivered to Tim’s office the following morning. The restored data contained only a portion of the QuickBooks’ information, and Tim’s employees would have to find the remaining pieces, if they could. The total bill from this IT company was over $1,800, plus Tim spent several weeks doing data entry. The anxiety and tension in the office for these weeks was terrible. The moral: find an IT company to work with you on a regular basis to keep all of your equipment running at peak performance.
