Iphone Apps For Students
Posted by admin on Friday Feb 27, 2009 Under Uncategorized

Educational iPhone apps may sound like an oxymoron to some but to teachers it is a dream come true. As a teacher, I already see kids carrying around the contraband in their backpacks and pockets even though it is not supposed to be at school. Personally, I can’t wait for it to become a staple of the classroom and it the App Store has anything to say about it, it will be soon.
The Apple Store is Producing Tons of Educational iPhone Apps
Over the last year or so, the iPhone app store has taken over iTunes. What used to be only songs and videos is now full of educational games and books. The increase of educational software parallels hardware devices. It is truly unreal.
It is truly unreal. You can find musical instruments, translation tools, learning games, mobile books, memory games and that is just for starters. With each passing day, new educational games are added for kids to the App Store. Shoot two years ago no one knew what an App Store was and now tens of millions of educational apps are downloaded.
While this may barely make a dent in the iTunes and Apple grand scheme of things, it is enough to make a teacher cry!
Studies Show Kids Want to use the iTouch
While more studies need to be done, preliminary studies show that when used in the classroom kids are more likely to come to school. This should not be a surprise to anyone. Kids like playing around on things like iPhones and iTouches. Therefore, if they know the thing is going to be used in class then the kids will come to school to use it.
I am not sure how the schools will pay for it but whatever will get the kids there is good for me. These games are great anyway and anything that gets a kid to practice math, reading, spelling, or whatever is also good with me!
iPhone Apps Connect Children to the Web
This is also not a big surprise to anyone either. The iPhone connects students to the web. I guess the study is saying kids who are connected are more likely to do research on their homework. Not sure where this one is going but whatever floats their boat right?
When you are trying to promote your new product you do what you have to luckily I am not trying to promote the iPhone. As a teacher, I think the iPhone has enough educational possibilities without having to hype it up. But then again, I did not pay for the big studies across the world. Therefore, I do not have to rationalize my findings.
The iPhone has great educational apps and I cannot wait to start seeing it more in my classroom. I hope that the schools stop banning it soon.
