Iphone Apps Just Close

How do i make it, so when I’m roaming, the iPhone will close and disallow me to use apps that may charge?
The thing is, I go to Mexico every week-end, and i dont want to get charged $20 gazzilion for data roaming charges. I’ve read that you can now make it so the iphone automatically closes, and disallows you from using apps that can charge you extra (like youtube, or safari).
Can someone please explain how to enable this?

i don’t want to enable airplane mode, since i sometimes have to use my phone in mexico.
it depends.
if you have 1.1.1 turning off edge is in settings
if you have 1.0.2 and have jailbreaked, there is a program called “Services” that turns off edge.
if you have 1.0.2 vanilla, you can’t.
I’ve jailbreaked and I use “Services”
not even at&t’s international plan will help you with EDGE roaming fees!
turning EDGE off and on by calling AT&T is a real pain, but it can make your vanilla iPhone work as a phone, but not use EDGE data services.
