Iphone Apps Not Launching

Posted by admin on Saturday Mar 7, 2009 Under Uncategorized

O.K, O.K – it was never going to live up to the hype – but we can’t help but feel that Apples latest offering, was  - well slightly underwhelming, a la “Night at the Museum 2.”

Maybe it was because we got what we expected.

The “S” stands for speed (2.9 times) apparently, on apps and the internet etc.  The compass is there (never needed a real one?), the video is there for YouTube fanatics with 32GB option to store the video. The 3MB camera with Autofocus is going towards answering many critics, along with voicecontrol. Many of the other items such as Cut n paste along with MMS are OS3.0 upgrades so we don’t count those.

Perhaps its this weeks launch of the Palm Pre,  but we still feel the iPhone is playing to some extent catchup. Indeed one quick witted fanboy commented “Welcome to 2006, iPhone users!” Certainly its a revision rather than revolution.

But perhaps the iPhones isn’t this years story. Even Apple will not have overlooked the fact that we are in one of the worst (if not the worst) global recession. Its positioning in the phone market as a boutique brand, could be a serious handicap. Thats why the real story is the reduction from $199 to $99 for the 8G iPhone 3G.

With a stroke – an iPhone is now a competitive option for austere consumers (and lets face it  - who isn’t one?). OS 3.0 with the much needed functionality enhancements will only enhance that position. Apple are clearly aiming for the mass market – whilst offering the iPhone 3GS as the aspirational product. Previous price cuts in of this order have doubled iPhone sales.  This puts Apple head to head with Nokia and no doubt that there are a few worried Fins in Espoo at the moment.
