As consumers buckle down and try to make every dollar count, the iPhone clones are becoming more and more popular. It can be hard to justify very costly and repetitive monthly phone fees just for the privilege of sporting a fruit logo on your phone. And, I’m also seeing a trend of folks who are becoming more interested in the clones that have Wi-Fi. This is because these feature allows you to use the net for free when ever you are in range of an open network. So, in the long run, having a Wi-Fi phone can actually save you quite a bit of money, especially if you live in a city or campus with plentiful hot spots. In this article, I’ll review what is one of the more popular clones with Wi-Fi – the MiPhone (aka the CECT M88.)
Why The MiPhone Is One Of The Most Loaded Clones On The Market: The newer i9 became very popular because it included Java. This phone has Java, but so much more. It runs on the Windows Mobile Professional operating system. This is actually a big deal in the clone world. Why? Because not all smart phones support Flash. This means when you go on large sites with video, you will sometimes have trouble because your phone doesn’t support Adobe Flash Player.
But, there is a new free down loadable browser called Skyfire that includes Flash 9. However, this browser (which is currently free) can only be downloaded on phones which use Windows Mobile.
As previously discussed the M88 includes Wi-Fi. It also has built in GPS. In addition, it supports Win CE and Java files, applications, and downloads. It also supports MSN, QQ, and SKYPE software as well as Mobile Commerce (Word, Excel, PPT, and PDF files.) This phone also has dual digital cameras with 2.0 mega pixels.
It’s A Quad Band: Previously, there was a phone that was very similar to this called the CECT T32. It had good customer satisfaction and was a brisk seller. However, it was a tri band. This upgrade is a quad band, which covers a lot more consumers world wide. Basically, if you have a GSM sim card, this phone should work.
Zippy Performance: In addition to the bonus features, this phone includes all of the old standbys – web browsing (via WAP, opera mini, or the cool new skyfire with flash); MMS; SMS; email; FM radio; web cam; Bluetooth; and MP3 and MP4.Â
The picture quality of this phone is very good. The sound is quite loud and sharp. (I would keep it on low, but my son likes it on loud.) The performance is speedy especially if you upgrade the memory. The touch screen is responsive and this phone has the menu flow touch interface that allows you to scroll around and crop photos using only your fingers.
The large, high resolution screen makes it pretty easy to read and edit documents. For texting, a QWERTY keyboard pops up onto the touch screen. The letter sizes are pretty generous because this is more of a full sized phone and not really one of the new minis.
The camera is surprisingly good and it’s cool to set up ring tones to correspond with a photo of the caller. Since this phone supports Java, there are tons of free downloads and applications available.
In terms of pricing, this smart phone does cost a bit more than models that don’t have all of it’s features. It is sometimes around $200, depending upon memory. But, it truly is a smartphone and I find that it really appeals to folks who truly need and will use all of it’s features.
