The report also said the iPhone due to enter the Chinese market and in several countries to increase a number of operators, iPhone’s market share in the fourth quarter will continue to rise.

Studies have shown that Apple has become the world’s third largest smart phone company, behind Nokia and RIM. In the third quarter, Apple sold about 7.04 million iPhone, higher than last year’s 4.72 million, an increase of 49.2%. Apple’s market share of 12.9% from the same period last year rose to 17.1%.

Nokia’s third-quarter share of this market, 39.3%, smart phones shipped 16.16 million, up from 15.47 million a year earlier. However, Nokia last year in the global smartphone market share of 42.3%. Gartner said Nokia’s 2009 market share in this record of a record low.

In the third quarter, RIM shipped about 8.52 million smart phones, a market share of 20.8%, 15.9% higher than the same period last year. Ranked fourth and fifth respectively, HTC and Samsung, the two companies in the smart phone market share of 6.5% and 3.2% respectively.

At the same time on the phone operating system market, Gartner conducted a survey, results show that the rapidly rising share of Android, its global market share of approximately 3.5%.

Gartner research director Carolina Na Mila in the West (Carolina Milanesi) said: “The third quarter of 2009, there are a variety of mobile phones, including several for the Christmas holidays launched Android smartphone. However, low-cost commodity hardware, as well as the growth of open platform make them appear not prominent. Meanwhile, the channel slowed the action of compression stock, so that despite an increase in sales, but average selling price remained stagnant. We expect average selling prices of mobile phones in 2010 will continue to face pressure. “

The report said, iPhone average selling prices will remain stable. Last quarter, Apple said the iPhone, the average price of slightly more than 600 U.S. dollars, which indicates that Apple is currently selling more higher-priced iPhone 3GS.

Milanesi said: “A lot of mobile phones will be available during the Christmas season, operators will start in the holiday sales. We expect the fourth quarter mobile phone sales will occur up. With so many cell phone makers and industry observers have called for a reduction through the channel sales, our data show that in 2009 mobile phone sales will be flat in 2008. “
